Plant Flowerpot Houseplant Terrestrial plant Flowering plant

Hello folks! I hope you can help me. My apple seedlings started off nice and healthy but now they're rather pale. Some leaves are brown at the edge and they all had white fuzz until two days ago.

To fix that, I made some weakened tomato food and poured it over. I hadn't given any fertiliser before then because the soil seems so good - straight from the compost.

As you can see, the other seeds I popped in later have sprung up so I think the seeds like the soil. They get light all morning and direct sun for three or four hours before the sun goes round the corner about 11am.

Any tips why they seem to be dying? I try to keep the soil moist but it's not wet - it drains well.

Yes; I just shoved the seeds into the soil. There was all sorts of complicated nonsense online about wetting the seeds and warming them up for a month beforehand but it sounded like hogwash to me - and it clearly was! All five seeds have grown quite happily. Now I just need to know why they aren't robust.
