I planted some asparagus in my back yard a few years ago and forgot about it. Last summer I noticed some really pretty fern like plants growing in that corner that I never pay any real attention to and lo and below there was some asparagus in there. It really cracked me up. I don't know how many years of it I could have been eating. It excited me so much that I ordered some more and planted them last fall. I added some Purple Passion to the mix and while I was at it I planted some rhubarb too. It will be nice to have some perennial vegetables growing in the background. I'm in zone 5 and I don't see anything peeking out yet. My ground is still frozen about an inch and a half down.

the frost thing is more of a 24+ hours of cold frosty temps not just night time freezing. where I live it gets over 50 during the day now but can still freeze at night but the soil doesn't freeze just water buckets, the windows on the car, the top of the grass. but not the dirt.
