Phonetool, I use "manure" tea. For me it works really well. Since I'm in the country (Tennessee Hills) I can get all the horse/cow/chicken manure I need for the garden. So what I use is free for me. I take a 5 gallon bucket and fill 1/2 full with horse manure. then finish filling with rain water. I put a cloth cover over the bucket and let it sit and seep for 4 to 5 days. then I take another 5 gallon bucket and put a piece of screen wire over it to strain the manure tea into this bucket. then I add more rain water to this manure tea. I then pour it off into gallon plastic milk/water jugs and only fill 1/4 full of this mixture, then finish filling the plastic jug with rain water. this way it is weaken down quiet a bit. this mixture makes a large amount of manure tea that will last me all year and plenty to share with my fellow gardeners. the way I use this manure tea is I pour a cup around the base of the plant about every 3 weeks. then I use a hand held spray bottle filled with manure tea and spray the foliage once a week. This works really well for me.
good gardening to all for 2013
