I am not normally a blogger, but vegetable gardening is an activity I never had time to do properly before I retired. I just completed a 12' X 4' X 1' raised bed for carrots and I have sifted a ton of good garden soil. What next? Because my typ. soil is glacier rubble mixed with clay (hard pan), Root crops are impossible. Having said that, I grow corn, potatoes, squash, tomatoes, peppers, onion (from sets), broccoli, pole beans and sun flowers with no trouble and as organically as I can, my soil PH is 6.0 the plot is 80' X 40' slightly slanting toward the South. Other than watering the seeds to germinate, I seldom water beyond germination. My next project will be a dirt cellar.
