The wonderful thing about living in the era we do is the technological advancements such as the internet, cell phones, microwaves, and on and on. Vegetable gardening is no different. Science and technology advancements have turned many gardening processes from being back-breaking work to simple tasks that take minutes instead of hours or days. Not to mention giving us gardeners the knowledge and tools to grow ever better vegetables.

The advancement of growing fruits and vegetables is still pushing forward with the introduction of several new gadgets in recent years. These new gadgets can help you keep your vegetable garden going all season long.

Personally, I feel there is nothing wrong with trying or using new garden tools, but a new fandangled gadget should not be used to completely rely on for gardening help. It is hard to replace hands on experience, sharing knowledge with fellow gardeners, reading, and just getting out there and getting dirty.

Black & Decker Plant Smart Digital Plant Care Sensor

Black & Decker Plant Smart Digital Plant Care SensorThe first new gardening gadget available is the Black & Decker Plant Smart Digital Plant Care Sensor. This Digital Plant Care Sensor seems to be a very helpful and easy to use device. It comes with a USB port that plugs into your computer.

Once you have it set to either record or monitor, just stick it in the soil where you want to plant, with it set in the record mode. You can also place it adjacent to existing plants if you want to monitor them in monitor mode.

It is embedded with sensors that will record such things as temperature, moisture content, and humidity. After 24 hours, you then pull the device up, and plug it back into your computer. Then log in to the EasyBloom website to find out the results.

The EasyBloom website boasts a plant library consisting of over 5,000 different plant profiles. The website will then give you suggestions to diagnose what is ailing your plants or what would best be suited for growing in that area.

I have not personally used the Black & Decker Plant Smart Digital Plant Care Sensor, but it sounds like a nifty tool to have. It would be very interesting to find out how bad I might be messing up!

The Eco-Stack Composter

The Eco-Stack Composter works like a traditional open compost pile, but in a small, self-contained stack that requires practically no effort. It costs less than many bargain compost bins, is simpler to use and much more durable.

Unlike lightweight plastic composters, ours is made of thick, UV-stabilized polyethylene. It withstands the elements without bleaching, warping or cracking.

There are no springs or clips to pop off, no hardware to rust. Easy to set up and use just stack the sections. You don't need to worry about keeping the compost moist or aerated, thanks to the rain-catching lid and bottom aeration vents.

Best of all, there's no turning. Once a year or whenever the composter is filled, just lift the sections off, move over, and fork uncomposted material back in.

Despite its trim footprint, the Eco Stack Composter holds 7-1/2 bushels, and its tapered design and neutral brown color make it inconspicuous in your landscape. If you want a toss-it-in-and-forget-it composter that will give you years of service, the Eco Stack is it.
