I'm obviously new to the forum, and I'm relatively new to gardening. Last year was the first time in 20 years that I attempted more than the occasional container plant. I'm in Zone 5. I'm in an urban setting (though Maine doesn't have any large cities), with very limited space -- about 500 sq ft altogether, split between a small front lawn bordering a sidewalk, and a narrow passage leading to the back yard, which about 400 square feet. I think I've done a pretty good job of utilizing the space I do have. I enjoy learning how to grow a perennial gardening. I also enjoy vegetable gardening and the challenges associated with it in my setting. This year, I went with 2 varieties of determinate tomatoes, cucumbers on a trellis, string beans, and garlic (in addition to herbs in window boxes). By joining the forum, I hope to get fresh ideas and helpful advice from those more experienced than me, while sharing my successes and failure with others.
