Hi from Mo-town burb, Livonia

I've been gardening for years. Mostly zuchini, tomatoes, and egg plant. This year I tried kale... horrible green worms were all over the leaves. I bought organic bug killer. I sprayed the plants, and they are awful looking even at the base. I'm wondering if I should just pull them up and try again next year? Also, when does one harvest "Bib" lettuce?
