I'm into do'n things that people say cant be done...
for instance, I built a raised bed U shaped garden [you Miami Hurricane fans know the U]
and filled it with 75/25 sand/WERM dirt justa grow MATERS....
I hadda small werm farm in our spare bedroom that outgrew that space in a year,
so ta say, I had PLENTY of exhausted dirt....
Maters did VERY WELL..
this year I decided ta build a HUGE FARM in backyard, ta supply my garden with plenty leftover ta sell locally..
this Project will be a miniature version of a Commercial Werm Farm....
I shood be able ta fill my garden this year with exhausted wermdirt and have even MORE MATERS...

oh yeah and I type funny....

hello, and great I love to do the unconventional too! drives my husband nuts he seems to think we need a half acre tilled up to get veggies enough for a year. I prefer the layered look to my garden with no tilling and smaller more manageable space with raised beds. this year I am starting a back to eden garden and more raised beds under that fashion. he hates it and thinks it won't work. he has been eating veggies out of the garden for 3 years now but still has this mind set.

he may say he wants big but he isn't doing any of the work! I have done all the gardening including building my raised beds and getting all the materials and doing all the hauling,manure shoveling,saving of news papers,getting wood chips,you name it he hasn't lent a hand any part except his opinion. opinions don't make a garden grow the just irritate the one doing the work. he does work and isn't lazy he just doesn't do any thing with the garden and keeps telling me how to do it but not helping if he wants to do the garden differently then he has to help until then it will be done MY way.
We have more than just a small yard with a small garden, we have 5 acres with livestock, 3 horses,3 donkeys,15 chickens,4 dogs,1 cat, once a year we have 2 or 3 pigs added to the mix until they go to the butcher and get sold. our goal is to be self sufficient with our food and it is a slow process when you have to spend time clearing trees,fencing,building barns,getting a years supply of hay/feed for the stock. he does the tree clearing and we both build fence and out buildings together and other projects together. he also works outside the home and I don't the reason I do the majority of the manual labor around the farm every thing from feeding to fence repair to collecting eggs to working in the garden. most of these things get done year round in any weather. We also do volunteer work on the local trail system for Back country horsemen of america. I am starting a new project to get a clinician to come to a boarding stable in my area and with that comes starting a new local riding club. should I say my plate is full and flowing over? happy gardening ya all! think I did a bit of venting LOL

welcome Johnsonacres, Like Stephanie, I also garden the lasagna way of gardening. Its so easy and I have never owned a tiller. As for deer, I have no trouble here and I live in the country. I think they have so much other crops to eat that they leave mine along. Plus there are hunting dogs in my area. I have heard of some hanging aluminum pans out so that the wind makes them clatter. but welcome to the forum, ans I'm sure someone can help you with the deer.

Welcome! looking foward to seeing your garden in pictures also. I too garden the lasagna way. Like Truman said, "its so easier" and I have never owned a tiller either. So besides easier way of gardening is also less expensive!
Keep on doing the "unconventional", thats what makes gardening fun!
