Mold on sweet potatoes for sweet potato slips?

I'm trying to grow sweet potato slips this year for the first time and I'm using the dirt method. But I keep getting mold growing on the sweet potatoes. Should I throw these out and start over? Is there any way to avoid this issue? I'd appreciate any advice!

Welcome.....I wouldn't worry about it. You will be cutting those slips off soon anyways.
I tried growing some slips this year using that method. Nothing grew. Last year had all kinds of slips, but just got a few skinny sweet potatoes.
