hi everyone, I live in Central Illinois, been gardening for over 11 years.

got a question for blackberry growers, I planted lots of thornless blackberries 3 years ago, they were absolutely loaded this spring. now are starting to ripen, but there are large discolored areas over portions of the berries. they are not mummified or shrunken, just kind of an offcolor. the berries thus affected don't taste very well. sunburn? some kind of disease?

black berries love mild weather not too hot not too cold. they will sunburn which tends to make them a bit sour and off color, be careful with watering while the berries are on they will mold real fast if they get wet. I live in western Washington state and berries grow rampant and wild around here, we have three types of black berries growing wild, 2 kinds of huckle berries, one red one blue also wild, and wild straw berries growing in my lawn, also we have wild black cap raspberries,thimble berries,salmon berries all growing wild. I do pick some to eat but notice when it rains or they get wet after they are ripe they mold very fast.
