Poblano Pepper

I am super new to gardening and my neighbor gave me a poblano pepper plant. At first the slugs got to it and I thought it was destroyed but it came back to life. I moved and it, and 1 pepper grew. It was a rich green and now it is a lime green. Is it lighting up to turn red or did i leave it on the plant too long? Its only about 2-3 inches long.
