I tried growing strawberries years ago. I got some but not a whole lot. I think I am going to try a few plants in my raised beds this year. Any pointers?

I just planted six plants myself this week. I put them in a planter and have them on drip irrigation. I don't know much about growing strawberries, but I do know a few tips. They like direct sun. They need full sun to make good berries. Also pinch off the first blooms to make larger blooms and berries later this Spring. There are two types of strawberry plants I think. One type produces berries once a season. The other produces twice - Late Spring and early Fall.

Put straw under the berries to keep them from touching the moist soil and rotting. Never bury the crown of the plant at the base of the stem.

A bit of trivia! Did you know the strawberry is the only fruit with it's seeds on the outside of the fruit? Cool huh?
