Taking care of my garden while going out

Hi there,
We are going for a family trip to New York for 16 days . I am a little worried bout my vegetable garden because there is no there to look after our garden at that time. We have already experienced a burglary when we had gone for a trip last holidays. Most of our garden equipments and fertilizers were stolen. We filed a complaint but that was of no use since there wasn't any proper evidence. So I am looking for the safety measures for our garden while we are out of town. I thought to implement this along with a security camera. Before implementing these ideas I would like to know how you people take care of your garden when you are not there.
