Tomatoes are without a doubt the most popular home-grown vegetable. There are many reasons for their popularity, such as great taste, an abundance of cultivars to choose from, and the ease of growing. Every home vegetable gardener should have tomatoes as a member of their garden.

In the Growing Tomatoes section of Veggie Gardener, I will be discussing all things tomato. I will be adding new content to this section when I begin the process of planting tomatoes in my vegetable garden. This should be very soon, as the growing season is rapidly getting closer.

This year I will be planting around 10 tomato plants in my garden. I haven't really decided what cultivars I will grow this year, but my choices will be among these:

Better Boy, Early Girl, Brandywine, Black Krim, and a few others.

I pick these cultivars because I have grown them before with much success. As the saying goes....I like to stick with what works.

Stay tuned in the next few weeks as I begin getting the garden ready for tomatoes and planting them. I will show you how I prepare the soil, how I plant my tomatoes, and certain things to avoid when planting tomatoes.
