We are working on the garden. The first thing we did was to add compost and fresh soil to all the beds. Because the soil was so compacted when we bought the house, it wasn't producing a lot of vegetables. We are starting over and working on fertilizer and compost. Next, we are planning to plant tomatoes, peppers and herbs. Also, the backyard shed building works are going on to store all our garden tools safely.

I was digging the soil with my excavator and adding peat/compost to improve the soil structure as I had this pest attack by larvae which will kill my plants. Then I filled each pot with compost, added compost and sieved the soil to get rid of the lumps. I then placed the plants in each pot and watered them. I watered each pot once to moisten the roots, then twice a week for the next two weeks to eliminate any fungus or bacteria. After two to three days, I would leave the planters in the shade.

Yesterday I planted some wildflower seed around my entrance gate. I also started some flower seedlings in trays to set out later in April.

On the vegetable front, I am having a hard time getting some romaine lettuce seeds to germinate. It needs to be cooler than it is right now I think. I have them inside under the AC vent in hopes of keeping it cool enough, but not much luck so far. The other various seeds that are on the heat mats are doing very well.

Still snow outside here so I started a few seeds indoors this morning....Sweet Potato, peppers, tomato and Sunflower. Probably a bit early for the sunflower, but I collected some seeds from last year and want to see if they will sprout.

Nothing today it's snowing and cold.
6 weeks ago i dug up 2 old currant bushes and going to transplant a deciduous Azalea and a rose that I've grown from a cutting there.
Last kick at winter, eh? Still lots of snow here so will be a while. We put our clocks ahead this weekend to Daylight Savings time. I don't know if you do that over there.

We rarely get any snow in May, mid April on occasion. Where I live, frost is possible until June, so I have to be careful with bedding plants. That's why I want to try the cold frames to get a head start.
